J1 would undoubtedly rank as one of the most productive cows ever. From her first calving at 2 years old, she produced 16 natural calves in her breeding life, including twin heifers in January 1998 then just 10 months later, a bull calf. And between these natural calvings, J1 was flushed 16 times for a total of 201 embryos and average more than 12 grade-1 embryos per flush. The photograph above of J1 was taken when she was 16 years old - still very much structurally sound and in fine fettle. J1 was retired from breeding aged 19.

We feel that J1 possessed one of the most economically important traits required in the beef industry today - longevity of breeding stock, unfortunately this is overlooked today with our modern Breedplan EBVs.

Willsbro is still in possession of semen from the sire of J1 - Forres Deek D62. These 'old timers' are coming back into demand to bring back the basic traits that Angus cattle used to be famous for.
